Desmond, a Lackey Lacking

Monday, September 26th, 2005

There’s a ton of buzz about last weeks Lost Premiere, and a lot of discussion about the things down that hatch.

I’m obsessed. Somebody on the Lost-Tv.com forums said they saw a Feng Shui compass, but that’s not what it is at all – it’s actually a Bagua, or at least, a rendition of one. I asked theorb77 if he saw it, but he didn’t. It’s in several spots, including Desmond’s jumpsuit, which is the hardest to spot.

Will His Love Be Like His Rum?

Yes it will, yes it will.

Ah, Belafonte’s Calypso album always takes me back to those extremely long car trips with my family. I’m sad to say, I’ll be on my way …

The Spririt of Giving

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

This year’s Christmas name-drawing has turned out to be marred by disaster and scandal, and caused my Sukie more than her share of distress. I’ve decided that Sukie and I are not going to be participating in the name-drawing this year: our names are to be withdrawn. I guess Christmas, for some people, means drama, and a competition to see who can be the most bitter and selfish.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about these things lately, what pulls people apart, what pulls people together, why does anything go the way it goes. Sukie and I were listening to talk radio and they were airing some dramatic peices on the air. One of them was a husband and wife arguing, and at one of his outbursts, he revealed the reason why we’re so fat in this country: food is the only thing left that brings us any pleasure.

Isn’t it though? Well, that, and finding out what was down that damn hatch – I’ll be pleased if the rest of the season is as good.

Yes, This is a LOST Post

LOST Season 2 premierred last night. It was delayed by coverage of a JetBlue plane in LA that might have blown in to little peices upon landing. The landing was cool, but it pushed back the premiere of LOST by 20 minutes or so.

If you watched LOST last night, you probably weren’t dissappointed. It was a good episode. It raised a lot of questions. After watching LOST, I worked a graveyard shift and pondered the episode the entire time. I went to http://www.oceanicflight815.com/ and tried to figure out the barcode ‘code’.

After a few tries, I grabbed a flash dis-assembler, and cracked open the ribs of the site, and put in the correct code, which brought up a page of the script. Which brought up a pretty crazy spoiler for the series. Crazy man, crazy.

Lost and PCGameMods.com

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

So now I have Lost Season One on DVD. It’s awesome. I had recordings of the episodes, but the DVD version is just sooooo much better. The sophomore year of Lost is about to start, and from what I’ve read and heard, the stories become more mission based for the next season. This boils down to predictability, which may hurt the charm and allure of such a series. I hold my breath, as will Msrs Lindelhoff and Abrams.

As some of you are aware, I write a little tool that helps good people create animations for a video game. Why? I should say that I’ve learned a lot in the process, but the words of praise from my users who encourage these actions, and it’s overall fun.

I should also say, that it’s a lot better for my sanity than trying to make a video game ‘mod’, as many other people have succesfully done. Why? Because my target users are creators, and not the destructive type who like to rip on a mod’s gameplay suggestions, and rip on ideas, and people in general.

To date, my creation is in beta, and I have only released it to one site, ever. Yesterday, the site was taken down, and redirected to a site that asks the user to guess which movie a displayed screencap is from. People got mad and furious. People felt invested in the site.

Let’s backtrack. The site, PCGameMods.com, has an infestation of trolls. Lots of them. So many, that the site’s proprietor, a nice chap named Sergio, has decided that the site needs an upgrade. In the upgrade, as far as I understand, the new site will not feature a feedback mechanism, or forums. So he took it down (rather, redirected it to another site of his,) to facilitate his upgrade.

So his trolls, feeling that they have some sense of investment and ownership in this site, decide to innundate his mailbox with hate mail and spam – even deaththreats. You can see some examples on a placeholder page Sergio has put up.

While I don’t know about removing the forums and feedback, and at this point, I wouldn’t blame him if he doesn’t put anything up, it should serve as a grim reminder to you all what happens if you don’t ignore the trolls. What should be done? What can be done? As a website’s proprietor, you want visitors. But … what if your visitors are a bunch of jokers?

I Gotta Get Paid

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

but hey, that’s just the way it is –

So I got paid today. Every time I get monies in my hands I want to spend them on gadgets, trinkets and such.

Today my thoughts are on Lost, and how I want to buy the first season on DVD!

10 years ago – I had just moved to Utah from Colorado. It was scary going to a new school and stuff. My new school looked like a run-down, really old school. Oh, and I didn’t know anybody there. Oh, and I started as a Sophomore. Wow, that was a long time ago.

5 years ago – I’d been married for about a year, had a one year old.

1 year ago – Last year a lot of stuff happened, it was very complicated.

Yesterday – Woke up before dawn and took Piperoo to the Salt Lake City Cemetary and then to the airport. After that, I played (and won) a game of WarCraft III, found out that I don’t get paid til Tuesday, (bought coffee) and went to my mom’s house to work on Sukie’s desk. After sanding the desk down, Sukie, myself, and my mom went to Home Depot and bought some paints, and some lunch, which wasn’t so good. Then I picked up Jabba from school, and went back to my mom’s house. Painted the desk, which didn’t turn out that great. Then I went home, and was very tired at that point. I did warn Sukie that she wouldn’t like how it turned out. I rested on the couch until Sukie got home from work. Then we were off and running again, to Cracker Barrel and then to Fish 4 U, PetSmart, and theorb and antigone’s place. I was super tired! I’m pretty sure we got more coffee in there somewhere, too, but I was so tired and it didn’t wake me at all.

5 snacks I enjoy – Coffee, Tortilla Chips, Lemon Poundcake, My Mom’s Cookies, and Dry Roasted Peanuts.

5 songs I know all the words to – DeBussy’s Claire de Lune, Bach’s Air, um … most Beethoven symphonies (like … 9 has a choir,) AC/DC’s TNT, and the James Bond Theme.

5 things I would do with $100 million dollars – Buy luxury cars and have a crash up derby. Buy a bitchin’ house. Start my own company. Invest. Live.

5 places I would run away to – Hawaii, Japan, Amsterdam, Jamaica, Argentina.

5 things I would never wear – A Sailor Suit, tights, a Panda, a Boy-Band T-Shirt, or a shirt that says “I Suck.” Because I don’t.

5 favorite tv shows – Lost, The OC, Gray’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Nature.

5 biggest joys – My son, making my wife happy, completing a project, writing code, appreciation.

5 favorite toys – Hmmmmm … not sure. Video Games.

5 people I tag – People. Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’ve already been tagged.
